Singing is not just for “singers.” I believe everyone, regardless of ability, can learn to use his or her voice more effectively through voice study with a knowledgeable and qualified teacher. Talent helps, but determination, desire, and love for the instrument are equally important. I have worked with hundreds of students ranging in age from nine to seventy-plus, some of whom were “singers,” and some had no singing experience at all but were curious to explore an unknown part of themselves.
Regardless of experience or musical style (opera, jazz, folk, pop, classical), all students have the same goal in common: to learn to use their voices to fullest advantage and to sound as good as possible with the least amount of effort. Using techniques inspired by pedagogues Cornelius Reid, Seth Riggs, and Oren Brown, I help each student discover his or her natural voice and establish a healthy, sustainable vocal technique. Whether an individual comes with a broad range of goals or with a specific issue, I tailor each lesson for that student’s particular needs.

"Studying with Mary Beth is like having a personal trainer for your voice. My strength, flexibility, and range have all increased in the last year. Dr. Taylor's explanation of the science behind the singing clarifies the purpose of the exercises. Because she helps me strengthen the voice, she frees my spirit to sing."

"I went to Mary Beth Taylor not to perfect my singing voice, but to discover if I had one. It was a very emotional journey for me. Mary Beth met me where I was vocally and psychologically, with no judgment. She talked with me about my goals and what I wanted to accomplish. Dr. Taylor is extremely knowledgeable about music and the voice, and she is an excellent teacher. Just as important she is gentle, professional, understanding, and very intuitive. Mary Beth is a true professional. She supported and encouraged me the entire way. I learned I could sing! What a gift! Thank you Mary Beth."
